In the first of a series of blogs, we look at the journey of Lewis Taylor – from a bar tender at London Golf Club to Fawkes & Reece’s Management Accountant.
Fawkes & Reece’s core values are ambition, investment, care, delivery and succeeding and Lewis couldn’t be a better example of all five of those points being put into action.
During his early twenties, Lewis secured himself a job pulling pints at the London Golf Club to help fund his studies to become AAT qualified.
It was here that he heard about an opening within the back office for an Accounts Assistant working underneath John Morgan, then Head of Finance for the golf club.
The golf club manager was unsure about his application, but John ‘saw something in Lewis and wanted to mentor him whilst putting his studies to use in a formal accounting environment. He had the theory but needed an opportunity to put it into practice’.
Lewis immediately became an asset to the department. His willingness to learn and ability to transition between the two completely different departments was admirable.
In 2013 John left the golf club to join Fawkes & Reece as Finance Director, but due to a lack of internal vacancies was unable to take Lewis with him, until 2016 when an accounting role opened up.
Since joining, Fawkes & Reece have sponsored Lewis’ formal CIMA Accountancy qualification. To date, he has passed all 7 exams first time and is only 5 exams away from being a fully qualified accountant.
John comments ‘Lewis has been an asset to F&R, and the entire team can see that. I’m so glad I took a chance on him and offered him an opportunity to prove his potential. It has been so rewarding watching him achieve his goals.’
